Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade, we invite you to a workshop on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
PFAS are synthetic chemicals known for their exceptional stability and resistance to water, grease, and high temperatures, making them widely used in food packaging, waterproof textiles, Teflon coatings, the automotive and aviation industries, medical equipment, and firefighting foams. While they have numerous beneficial applications, their persistence in the environment and potential negative impacts on human health and ecosystems pose growing challenges. Due to their slow degradation, PFAS accumulate in water, soil, and living organisms, increasing concerns about their regulation and the development of sustainable alternatives.
To facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences regarding PFAS presence in the environment, analytical methods, regulations, and industrial impact, we are organizing a workshop titled:
"PFAS in Serbia: Current Status, Scientific and Regulatory Challenges, and Future Steps."
This event will bring together experts, industry representatives, and policymakers (Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia) to discuss the current situation, regulatory guidelines, and opportunities for sustainable solutions in Serbia.
The workshop will be held on April 4, 2025, starting at 10:00 a.m. (Kneza Miloša no. 12, hall on the 6th floor). This workshop will be organized as part of the activities of the project "Twining to address the PFAS challenge in Serbia (PFAStwin)" - Twinning Western Balkans (HORIZONWIDERA-2021-ACCESS-02) - financed by the European Commission (GA 101059534), which is coordinated by the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Belgrade (UBFC).
We invite you to join and contribute to this important dialogue by sharing knowledge and finding best practices together. You can register to participate in the workshop at the following link:
Please note that certificates for participation in this workshop will be provided only to registered participants.
